The adolescent girls and young women program is a program design to work with AGYW empowering them with quality education, sexual and reproductive health and rights information, and connecting them to economic opportunities.

This program is under our female branch; FACT Women Empowerment Network(FWEN).
Under the AGYW we have initiatives such as

Msungwana Ovaya

Msungwana ovaya is a program designed to help underprivileged primary school girls with school fund, school necessities such as textbook, writing pens, school bags, school uniforms, school fund and exam fee.

The aim of the program is to give a chance to every girl to access quality education regardless of their social economic status.

To increase girls school enrollment and completion rates

To bring about gender balance in the education sector.

Back to school program

Back to school program is a program that works specifically with AGYW that dropped out of school due to pregnancy, child marriages or sexual exploitation.

Back to school program is a program that works specifically with AGYW that dropped out of school due to pregnancy, child marriages or sexual exploitation.

This program engages with community leaders, teachers, and parents to make sure that girls that dropped out of school due to pregnancy are returned to school.

The girls under back-to-school program are supported under the msungwana ovaya funding .

Ending girl child marriages

The AGYW program also focuses on making sure that child marriages are eradicated in all communities we work with.

This program works with community leaders, teacher, religious leaders as well as parents in creating by-laws that support the advancement of girls’ education and discourages child marriages.

FACT has worked in Thyolo on ending girl child marriages and over 109 child marriages were abolished and over 60 girls were integrated back to school. And by laws on girls’ education and child marriages were developed in T/A Mchiramwera, Thyolo.

Let girls shine program(Menstrual health and hygiene program)

This program aims at eradicating period poverty by training girls on how to make handmade reusable sanitary pads using locally found materials.

Through the let girls shine program, over 3000 girls have been trained on how to make reusable sanitary pads.

This programs also aims at promoting school attendance for girls especially during the time that they are menstruating.

Ndalama manja (Money in our Hands)

Ndalama manja is a program that is aimed at training AGYW on different economic skills to help them make money and have money just as the name suggest.

Through ndalama manja program, AGYW are trained on investment, business management, budgeting, and financial management.

The AGYW are imparted with skills in sewing, knitting, baking, cake decorating, hair dressing as well as cooking.

So far, over 20 girls have been trained in these skills and topics.
