The CSE program is a rights-based approach to comprehensive sexuality education that equips young people with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values they need to determine and enjoy their sexuality—physically, emotionally, individually and in relationships. CSE empowers young people to make informed decisions about relationships and sexuality and navigate a world where gender-based violence, gender inequality, early and unintended pregnancies, HIV, and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) still pose serious risks to their health and well-being.

The Comprehensive sexuality education program enables young people to protect and advocate for their sexual health, well-being, and dignity by providing them with a necessary toolkit of knowledge, and skills they need to make a difference. CSE is a precondition for exercising full bodily autonomy, which requires not only the right to make choices about one’s body but also the information to make these choices in a meaningful way.

The main component of CSE is

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

SRHR helps young people to have a positive approach to their sexuality and information to dispel myths. Understanding that sex should be enjoyable and consensual. Understanding that sex is much more than just sexual intercourse.

Understanding giving sexual consent, the right to have sex only when you are ready. Understanding having safe and protected sex, how to use condoms and other forms of contraception-including emergency contraceptives and other family planning methods, pregnancy options and information- legal and safe abortion, unsafe abortion. Understanding HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Understanding that love and sex are not the same.
